Revealing Neural Mechanisms Underlying Neonatal Opioid-Induced Hyperphagia. The goal of the project is to reverse translate insights derived from studying translational modifications in the saliva of newborns exposed to opioids to develop a rodent model of exposure that will allow the investigators to understand the neural mechanisms underlying this unique feeding phenotype.

The goal of this grant is to examine how prenatal opioids affect the developing brain in a sex-dependent manner and to identify neonates at risk for more severe opioid withdrawal using non-invasive neonatal salivary gene. expression and brain magnetic resonance imaging.
