- Qualifications for SCDV-480 Internship in Science
- Junior or Senior status.
- 14+ credits taken in a single department in the School of Science. Internship must be in a subject covered by this department.
- GPA in major and overall of 3.2 or better (flexible).
- ENVA majors automatically qualify for an internship and should discuss projects/sites with their advisor.
- The Faculty SOS Internship Coordinator might seek the recommendation of your advisor.
- Permission of the Internship Coordinator.

- LOGISTICAL REQUIREMENTS
Academic schedule must allow blocks of time of 4 or more hours that you can be at the internship site.
Need to work 40 internship hours per credit hour earned (3 credit hours = 120 internship work hours).
Usually need to work a minimum of 12 hours per week for 3 credits.
Usually need to work a minimum of 8 hours per week for 2 credits.
1-credit and 2-credit internships are hard to find (and usually are only done as a follow-up to a 3-credit internship).

You may drop or withdraw from an internship just like any other course.
The internship courses (SCDV-480 and SCDV-250) are Pass/Fail (no grade).
SCDV-480 and SCDV-250 are electives – they are not courses in your major.
- COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Maintain a daily time-log (brief description of daily activities). Enter this at least weekly in the Experiential Learning Module.
Work 40 hours at internship site for each credit hour earned.
Complete an end of the semester experience report.

- MISCELLANEOUS
Internships are not necessarily paying positions (but pay is allowed). If you have a job in your major field of study, it may qualify for internship credit.
You may earn internship credits over the summer. Note thought that the college will charge you for the summer credits.
Internships are electives - they do NOT count as courses in you major.
Internships give you a taste of actual job experience.
Internships give you an opportunity to work with professionals in your BS degree field.
Internships give you a chance to apply what you have learned.
If you are dependable and you perform well, an internship may provide you with a job-reference.

Internships are not available in a field for which someone is not qualified with a Siena BS degree: for example, in the office of an MD, DDS. DVM, PT, OT, PA, DO, DC, etc.

- End-Of-Internship Requirements
For a P/F grade to be submitted, by the end of the semester you must have done the following:
- Your daily time log must be complete, showing a list of days you worked, the number of hours worked each day, and a brief description of what you did that day. The total number of hours worked must be 40 hours for each credit hour earned. (So for 3 credits, you must have worked 120 hours.)
- A written experience report about your internship. This report should be uploaded to the Experiential Learning Module under the Semester Report.
- An evaluation of your internship site. This can be completed by completing the Program Summary in the Experiential Learning Module.
If you fail to complete and submit these items, your grade will be entered as an “F” (the course is pass/fail).
In addition, for Fall and Spring Internships, the Faculty SOS Internship Coordinator will be sending a student-evaluation form via email to your internship supervisor.
